 South Tyneside council, have been ranked in the top 20 SOCITM web sites. When they originally looked to the market over a year ago they had specific requirements to ensure that any online mapping did not impact on this important ranking.
As iShareMaps uses pure HTML it is easy to integrate with an existing council web site. The software meets the requirements put forward regarding accessibility guidelines and because it is web and e-Gif compliant all a citizen needs is a browser and Internet access, no plug-ins, not even a specific type browser! Having had iShareMaps for a year or so South Tyneside needed to provide access to their Unitary Development Plans (UDP) keeping the citizen informed and up to date with everything that might have an impact on their lives. By simply reconfiguring one of the maps they now have an online solution that links directly to the relevant chapters of their UDP.
